Dr. David Moher

Biography

Dr. David Moher is the founder and director of the Chalmers Research Group (CRG). He holds the University Research Chair in Systematic Reviews and is an Associate Professor in the Departments of Pediatrics, and Epidemiology & Community Medicine of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Ottawa.

Dr. Moher directs the University of Ottawa's Evidence-based Practice Center (UO-EPC) and is the lead convener of the Cochrane Collaboration's Bias Methods Group (BMG). David is an editorial board member of several leading journals and is an advisor for the evidence-based medicine portfolio of the British Medical Publishing Group.

As a Clinical Epidemiologist, Dr. Moher has an international reputation regarding conduct of randomized clinical controlled trials (RCTs), the methodology of systematic reviews and meta-analysis. It was his leadership that led to the development of the CONSORT statement, the standard for RCTs reporting methodology – adopted by more than 500 health care journals internationally. Additionally, David has been the leading force behind the development and ongoing work of the QUORUM Statement, a guidance document for the reporting of systematic reviews.

Dr. Moher’s current research interests include how and when to update systematic reviews, conducting methods (i.e., study characteristics) for reviews, and revisions to the QUOROM Statement. Further, Dr. Moher is keenly interested in trials and review methodology in the field of Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM).

Dr. Moher received his MSc in Epidemiology and Community Medicine, Queen’s University, Canada, and PhD in Clinical Epidemiology & Biostatistics, University of Amsterdam.
