CRG is a leader in international standards of reporting initiatives for randomized controlled trials. CRG’s Dr. David Moher has been at the forefront of CONSORT (CONsolidated Standards of Reporting Trials) since it’s inception in the mid-1990’s when an international group of clinical trialists, statisticians, epidemiologists and biomedical editors came together to address issues around the quality of reports of randomized controlled trials.
The CONSORT Statement is an important research tool that improves the quality of randomized trial reports using an evidence-based approach. CONSORT comprises a checklist and flow diagram providing an evidence-based format that serves to improve the quality of randomized controlled trial reports. The result is a more transparent experimental process, allowing researchers, health care providers, peer reviewers, journal editors and health policy makers to appropriately evaluate the trial’s validity flawed or not.
The Statement is available in several languages and has been endorsed by prominent medical journals such as "The Lancet", "Annals of Internal Medicine" and the "Journal of the American Medical Association." Extensions to the CONSORT Statement have also been developed to address issues particular to certain trial designs, interventions and data types.
